- The Mac finds the iPhone on its own. Record with ⌘R or the red button.
Frequently asked questions
My Mac can't find the iPhone
Make sure Takeframe is open on both devices and has local network access: on the Mac, in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network; on the iPhone, in Settings › Takeframe. It works best when both are on the same Wi-Fi network.
The recording stopped
Don't lock the iPhone while filming: iOS turns the camera off. Use “Turn off screen” inside the app and keep the iPhone plugged in. Everything recorded up to that point is saved.
Where are my takes?
On the Mac, in Movies › Takeframe: a .mov file with the audio already joined, plus the original .wav from the microphone. If a take didn't make it to the Mac, it's on the iPhone in Files › On My iPhone › Takeframe.
The audio doesn't match the picture
Keep “Sync by sound” on and allow microphone access for Takeframe on the iPhone. If it's still needed, adjust “Audio delay” in the Mac's panel.
How much space do I need on the iPhone?
Each take is recorded in full on the iPhone before moving to the Mac: about 750 MB per minute in 4K at 30 fps HEVC. The app shows how many minutes you have left, and each take is deleted from the iPhone once it's on the Mac.
I don't see ProRes or Apple Log
Only iPhone Pro models record in those formats. On other models, HEVC in HDR gives the highest quality.
